At Billabong Retreat, we believe that our natural state is one of energy, ease, and joy. Yet so often, life’s challenges, stresses, and past experiences shape the way our bodies hold tension – not just in the mind, but deep within our physical tissues. Our host, Mark Moon, specialises in Body Psychology and therapeutic breathwork, an approach that explores how the body and mind are inseparably connected.
Mark teaches that the nervous system is always balancing between sensory effort (easeful awareness of movement and sensation) and unsensory struggle (holding, bracing, and tension we may not even notice). Over time, these patterns of holding – often in our fascia, the connective tissue that surrounds muscles and organs – can build up due to trauma, experiences, and conditioned responses.
One area where this shows up strongly is the diaphragm. As the central muscle of breathing, it often becomes tight and restricted, limiting both our breath and our sense of vitality. Through practices such as breathwork, mindful movement, and body awareness, we can begin to release this deep-seated tension.
When we free the body from these old patterns, the shift is powerful – we return to our natural state of flow, openness, and presence. Mark’s sessions gently guide guests through this process, helping them reconnect with the body’s wisdom and move toward greater freedom in both body and mind.
